As humans we have a profound and ancient connection to fire, one of our earliest tools that forever set us apart from our primate cousins and started us on the long road to the stars. But fire is more than just a tool, it can move the soul and if you have ever stared in to a fire as it flickered and danced on a dark night, you may have glimpsed it spiritual power. Our ancestors knew this and harnessed it for their most sacred ceremonies.
That spiritual power is still available to us even with all our wondrous technology. The fire ceremony is one of my favorite rituals because it is simple and only takes an hour or so, but can still manifest your intention in mere days. Plus, it is flexible enough to manifest anything from confidence speaking to strangers to a new love interest to a new career opportunity.
Since you will be working with fire, safety is paramount. Always remember that a single spark or an abandoned fire that is not completely out can start quickly spread out of control, consuming forests, homes and even lives. Choosing the right location is critical and always obtain permission if you are on public or private land. You will also need three twigs and some virgin olive oil besides the kindling for the fire. Finally, be prepared to fully extinguish the fire with water if it sparks or accidentally spreads.
Begin the ceremony by calling in the four directions -- South, West, North and East in that order – followed by mother earth below you and father sky and grandmother moon above you. Then build a small fire in a safe place such as a fire pit or wood-burning fireplace and not in a gas-burning fireplace for obvious reasons.
Remember, the fire is symbolic and size is not important. My friends in New York City do this ceremony with just toothpicks, tweezers and a candle in their apartment (minus the oil of course). Still, keep the fire small since you will need to stay with it until it goes out completely.
Once the fire is going, take a little virgin olive oil and thank the four directions and mother earth and father sky with it before placing a few drops on the fire. The fire will flare up a bit from the oil, but wait for the flames to go back down. You can also use a rattle or sing a soft lullaby to the fire calling on it to be sweet if you like. Repeat the process of thanking the directions and anointing the fire with oil two more times. Be sure to wait for the fire to subside and become sweet again between each cycle of applying the oil.
After the fire becomes sweet again following the third application of the oil, take the first twig and blow on it three times to connect your energy field to the twig while holding an image of whatever you wish to manifest in your mind. Then place the twig in the fire and let it burn to manifest your intention. Repeat with each of the three twigs while visualizing your intention each time. It is fine to use the same intention for all three twigs if you like.
Continue to hold your intentions in your mind while the fire and twigs burn. Once the fire has completely burned up and there are just coals left without any flame, put water on the coals until they are cool to the touch. Only then can you leave the fire, but first release the four directions and mother earth and father sky using the same order as before: South, West, North, East, mother earth, and then father sky and grandmother moon. Be sure to thank them for protecting your ceremony and sanctifying the space.
Fire ceremonies are most powerful when done on the night of the full moon, but can also be done on the new moon or any time you wish, just not more than once a month. You will still need to take the necessary steps from joining an online dating service to going on first dates to meeting new people at parties, but trust that Spirit has honored your request and is already guiding someone special to you.
Just remember that Spirit is far wiser than we are and looks deep in to the soul, beyond mere appearance or affluence. Also, don't worry about having to figure out who they are, trust Spirit to let you know when they show up.
